As a stand-up comedian Dan Telfer has worked with such comedians as Paul F. Tompkins, Todd Barry, Mark Maron, and Janeane Garofalo. He toured with Maria Bamford as a feature to several midwest clubs. He is a cast member of Chicago Underground Comedy, one of the most popular stand-up shows in town. He is a teacher at Chicago's famed Second City, where he teaches their first ever Stand-up Comedy courses.
TimeOut Chicago has published his jokes, and they’ve interviewed him several times. TimeOut also recently named him one of the Funniest People in Chicago. In 2009 he won the Chicago festival Snubfest’s competition “Last Snob Standing”. He has appeared on the nationally syndicated TV and Radio program The Bob and Tom Show. RooftopComedy.com dubbed him the "Nelson Mandela of Nerds". Rooftop went on to name his clips a Staff Pick 4 times, and Guest Editor Veronica Belmont’s Editor’s Choice. NYtheatre.com said "Dan Telfer promised the kind of unpredictable lunacy you need for an audience to forget itself". His material is at once dark and twisted yet optimistic. Though he is quite the geek he relates his point of view on terms anyone can relate to.
Dan began training in improv comedy in 1996 under improv guru Del Close. He went on to perform everything from improv, conventional theater, and solo plays around Chicago. Several of his plays have also reached local critical acclaim, such as his slacker superhero series "Rogue 8" and his reinterpretation of Beowulf entitled "The Book of Grendel".
